Online Auction Raises Money For Midwest Violence Prevention Efforts Online Auction (November 6 - December 15, 2005) On Sunday, November 6th, a collaboration of grassroots organizations dedicated to preventing gun violence will be launching an online auction event: "Come Together" to Free America from Gun Violence as a tribute to the life and legacy of John Lennon. We are asking you to help celebrate John Lennon's legacy and to honor the over 30,000 Americans killed each year with guns by supporting our efforts to reduce gun violence. John Lennon inspired people to believe in a different worldview, one full of hope, peace, and opportunity. Since gun violence claimed the life of John Lennon on December 8th, 1980, over 800,000 Americans have died by gunfire and another 800,000 have been injured in the past 12 years alone. Gun violence is an unrelenting public health emergency in our country of truly epic proportions--and yet it goes virtually unnoticed. In 2002 alone, 30,242 Americans were killed with firearms. In comparison, a total of 33,651 Americans were killed in the Korean War, 58,148 Americans were killed in the Vietnam War and 1,741 have been killed in the war in Iraq as of June 28, 2005. The theme, Come Together, is a hopeful message signifying what Americans can do when they join together to resolve a problem. As an important symbolic gesture, the auction will run from November 6th and will conclude on December 15th. Please consider supporting our event by donating an item or service worth at least $50. Your company name, contact information, a link to your website (where applicable) and donation will be listed on our auction page. Your donation is fully tax-deductible and we will send you a donation letter for your records after the auction. We hope you choose to support our auction this year. |
