Research National Presentations The “Clergy Education in Suicide and Firearm Violence” has received favorable national attention. Staff presented the project at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Spring Meeting in May 2005 and the American Public Health Association Fall Meeting in Philadelphia in December 2005. Staff will also present the project in April 2006 at the American Association of Suicidology Annual Meeting in Seattle. In addition, staff presented a paper entitled, “Multiple Victims of Gunshot Injury in Marion County” at the American Public Health Association Fall Meeting in Philadelphia in December 2005. PublicationsA paper on the suicides in Marion County was recently approved for publication in Death Studies, a peer-reviewed journal. Jodi Hackworth, the IPPVID’s epidemiologist is working with Wishard Hospital trauma surgeons to publish research based on the findings of the data surveillance system. The data surveillance system continues to be unique because it tracks gun injuries as well as deaths. Potential research topics include recidivism issues and perpetrator characteristics. |
